I’ve decided to leave my current job at Linden Lab. Those of you interested in the ins-and-outs of Second Life may want to look at my post to “sldev” (our open source development mailing list). It was a tough decision to leave, and even tougher to make without having my next move totally nailed down, but so far it feels like the right decision. Ask me in a couple months how I feel

Without going into too much detail about what I’m working on, suffice it to say that it involves open source in a pretty big way. Even if this immediate opportunity doesn’t pan out, the scope of stuff I’ll be looking at is going to be pretty narrowly focused on facilitating the creation of open source software. I’ll write more here as things get clearer.

Hazel has reached the developmental milestone Rob and I are calling “Spookyfish”. For those of you who don’t watch South Park – one of the characters, Stan, gets this pet goldfish which turns out to be evil and kills people. No – that’s not Hazel’s new trick In one scene Stan is trying to go to sleep and watching the evil goldfish in its bowl over on the dresser. He shuts his eyes and opens them and the goldfish (in its bowl) is CLOSER. He shuts his eyes again and when he opens them the goldfish is at the FOOT OF HIS BED! The next time IT’S ON HIS BED! He jumps out of bed and runs screaming for his mom… Anyway – Hazel’s trick is she’s learned to roll the other way from her tummy to her back. She’s been giving herself quite a bit of tummy time, now sometimes she can get back over herself. There is a bit of screaming involved here – from Hazel when she gets frustrated and the parents while they realize the kid is getting mobile. We’ll put her down on the floor on her playmat or blanket and look away – and when we look back she’s a foot closer… then 2 feet. I was sitting here at the computer with her behind me and the next time she made a sound it was 2 feet to my right. Spooky!

Sunday, Sept. 30th

Hazel and I made a relatively uneventful flight back down to San Francisco. Everyone was happy to help the mommy with the little baby. Even the TSA folks set up the stroller and car seat and wheeled it over to a quiet area where I could get everything put back together without rushing.
The flight was only 50% full so we had 3 seats to ourselves and Hazel slept the entire flight. Rob rented a car to come pick us up because it was much cheaper than a taxi and on the way home we hit an In-and-Out burger for dinner. That nite no one got much sleep as Rob got hit with the flu and Hazel and I were re-adjusting to sleeping in beds not our own.

Sunday, Oct 1st

We went out to find a good bowl of chicken noodle soup to soothe everyone and ended up at the Citrus Club in the upper Haight neighborhood. Finding parking was enough to get Rob practically chanting “This better be worth it!” but when we finally got there, got ordered and started eating I personally thought it did turn out to be worth it. We estimate the bowl size to be approx. 1/2 gallon of tasty asian-style chicken soup – so if you go you really need to be in the mood for soup!
After the soup we quickly hit the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library book sale at Ft. Mason. It’s exactly like the Friends of the Seattle Library sale that happens at Magnuson Park on Sand Point. We found a few “Little Golden books” to add to Hazel’s collection and were on our way.
The last stop was Lombard St. - the Crookedest street in the America. Since we had a car we -had- to drive it – like every other tourist in the area – at least those that weren’t standing in the intersection gawking and taking pictures. Check – been there, done that. Wheee!

Monday, Oct 2nd

Rob called in a sick day to spend the day on the couch nursing his aches and pains and tummy so I returned the rental car and went to check out the Musee Mechanique after a quick lunch at Boudin’s bakery cafe. Their sandwiches are a bit dry but the chocolate croisanntes are the Bestest! MMmmmm!
The Musee Mechanique is free but each of the amusements are a quarter to a dollar. I think that’s fair since the money is applied to the upkeep of the machines. I had fun checking out the fortune telling machines and found the ‘execution peepshows’ quite amusing. Some of the displays were things that made you go “Huh.” – Not much action – like the “End of the Trail”. I expected mechanical coyotes or prairie dogs or something popping up but the only motion was from a fan hidden in a ‘cave’ to the left that turned on and made the tattered wagon cover move.
There were also your musical machines, flip movie machines and a collection of older ‘modern’ arcade games many of which I hadn’t seen in years! Guess if you’re going to advertise yourself as a ‘trip down memory lane’ for many folks you have to start including some of those for my generation…
As Hazel was budgeting much Fuss I decided to cut the visit short and find a place to do a diaper check. Whoo Boy! Good thing we invested in that rubber mat for the car seat. New diaper, new outfit and 1/2 a bag of wipes and we headed back to the condo. On the way back I saw a sight more expected in LA than San Francisco. A skinny blonde pony-tailed gal in hot pink hot pants and roller skates (not roller blades) zipping down the street. I expected to hear music from Xanadu as she went by…

Tuesday, Oct 3rd

On the last episode of Ham on the Street they were here in San Francisco at a place called Yank Sing to do dim sum stuffed with things you wouldn’t normally stuff dim sum with like apple dumpling filling, knish and pulled pork and folks had to guess the filling. I love the show. So of course I had to look up this place to see about the dim sum. Turns out they have a to-go store next to the restaurant. That made much more sense than sitting around for the carts – ’cause Hazel’s not much into dim sum, yet. So we packed up the stroller and headed for the Financial District. We managed to catch an F-train that wasn’t full to the gills with other tourists and the new smaller stroller made it easy for me to get on and off. The restaurant is in an office tower food court that surrounds a large atrium. I ordered the Seafood Supreme which included several steamed dumplings, a couple fried cheese won tons and a whole load of chowmein noodles. All-in-all a pretty good meal. They even had ala carte egg tarts so I ordered one for dessert… mmmmmm. Egg Tart! After Mom was full it was time to feed the baby so we just moved off to a more secluded corner of the atrium and finished lunch.
With everyone fed it was back in the stroller to check out the newly remodled Westfield Mall. Rob went to the mall shortly after the Grand ReOpening and found a mexican restaurant in the food court that had actually ran out of cheese. Is it really mexican food anymore when it doesn’t include cheese?
The highlite of the new mall (for Hazel and I) is the Family Lounge. A big comfortable lounge dedicated to kids and their parents. A large row of changing stations, 3 nursing rooms lots of toys and a large screen TV for the parents. It’s very nice. They even had complementary rattles and binkies for the babies. Unfortunately it appears that they are having to dedicate folks from Security to patrol the premises regularly to make sure it’s being used by families and not everyone else and their dogs. According to the plans for the Southcenter remodel there will be a similar Family Lounge near the new foodcourt.
I wanted to see how hard it would be to take a bus back to the condo and found a line that runs right past Linden Lab and stops a 2 blocks from our place. After having to wait over 40 mintues for a bus that is -supposed- to run every 15 I’ve decided that the F-train is still easier. San Francisco busses seem to run on a schedule that goes “We’ll be there when we are there.” And according to Rob (who I called to see if he could figure out why the bus was taking so long) their website sucks for looking up schedules.
Rob had a late nite outing so Hazel and I spent a quiet evening watching the SciFi channel.

Wednesday, Oct 4th thru Friday Oct 6th

Since I’ve waited so long to finish this post I’ve lost track of what we’ve been up to for a few days. We weren’t too adventurous. There was another walk down to Boudin’s bakery on a quest for chocolate rolls and we wandered around the Musee Mechanique a little bit more. On the way Hazel managed to kick off one of her socks so I had to track back 2 blocks to find it. No one wanted the little white baby sock that was being kicked around by crowds of people on the sidewalk. Thursday was the first practice day for the Blue Angels who were in town for Fleet Week. Their flight path seemed to buzz right over our heads here. Hazel was unfazed and even managed to nap through the noise.

Saturday, Oct. 7th and Sunday, Oct 8th

Rob being the sweet guy that he is let me pick the weekend activities. So Saturday we went down to the waterfront to see the Blue Angels (a.k.a ‘blangels’ or ‘#%$@%blueangels’) The area was crazy-mad with tourists but we found a spot on top of a parking garage to see part of the show. I’d seen the show before and just wanted to see enough to get a thrill and to say, Yes I saw the blangels. After that they became the ‘#%$@%blueangels’ because they seemed to buzz by every time Hazel had just fallen asleep in her car seat.
We did lunch at a place that advertised a california roll special but they didn’t have any california rolls left. hrmph! But they did do a passable beef and asparagus stir fry. The other thing I wanted to do was check out the wax museum. We had to thread our way thru the crowd standing outside the museum and I figured that meant it would be crowded inside. No, everyone was just standing there to look at the few figures on a rotating display out front. The museum itself was practically empty. There were few figures that we considered good likenesses. Some were just way off – in color and shape. Probably due to having to work from a photograph rather than a live model. And of course we had to take pictures of the Last Supper. Rob was tempted to put a bottle of water on the table – but they had beepers on the railings to discourage any messing with the displays.
Since Hazel was being such a premium baby we decided to take our chances and walk up to Coit Tower. I’d thought we’d done the tour before but turns out we hadn’t. It was quite a walk! We had to haul Hazel, the carseat and the stroller up 37 steps after the elevator ride, but the view was worth it. We had a few minutes to get pictures before Hazel let us know we’d pushed a few too many buttons with her and she’d had enough. Back down the stairs and the elevator to find a place to check the diaper and feed. Even that didn’t help much so we put her back into the carrier pack. Aha! Happier baby! Turns out she really likes being able to see things going on and the pack carrier on Daddy’s tummy is a great place to be! We took the stairs (hundreds) down the hill which put us just down the street from our condo and a quick walk home.
Sunday we went back out to Yank Sing to do their way-more-expensive-than-expected Sunday Dim Sum brunch. All the other stores in the food court are closed on Sunday so Yank Sing takes over the atrium and fills it with tables and dim sum carts. We sampled a variety of steamed and fried dumplings and even got some peking duck with steamed buns to put it in. I was expecting a bill close to what we’d normally pay in Seattle – but it was closer to what we’d pay in Seattle for Salty’s Sunday brunch on Alki. Wheee!!
After that treat we went to the Westfield Mall ’cause Rob hadn’t seen the Family Lounge. They had a security guard at the door of the restrooms either to keep folks from using the restrooms because there was a plumbing problem or to keep folks out that might use the Family Lounge that shouldn’t. Either way they were letting ‘families’ through so we got to use the lounge. Hazel and I got settled for her lunch in one of the nursing rooms and Rob got out to wander around. While he was gone Hazel had time to visit with another little girl just a couple weeks older who was being bottle fed by her mommy out in the play area. It was really cute the 2 little girls standing across from one another. Hazel was more interested in what the little girl’s older sister was doing – playing with toys than with looking at the other baby. She’s a shy one our Hazel.
Since it was such a nice day out we thought about going to a park and decided to check out the Yerba Buena gardens nearby. As we got there the #%$@%blueangels started another show so we quickly transferred a fussy Hazel from her carry pack to the car seat and ducked into Zeum. While Hazel’s still a little young to enjoy the kid’s museum we did get to take a 10 minute tour of the place. In a few years if we’re still coming down to the San Francisco area on occasion I imagine we’ll spend some time there. We saw but didn’t ride the carosel that was at Luna Park in 1907 before the big fire. There’s also a large outside play area that’s got a spongey recycled rubber surface, a huge slide, water features and a musical xylophone made out of pipe to bang around on.
On the way home we passed by a Beard Papa. I’d never heard of the place but Rob said they’re the Japanese equivalent to Krispy Cream. There was a line so Hazel and I waited outside for a fresh chocolate eclair. Rob got the Strawberry cream puff. Both were quite good and I think better than a krispy cream gooey-glazed air-puffed donut. Hopefully they’ll expand to Seattle.
We caught the F-Train home which was an adventure in itself. The driver was determined to get as many people on the train as possible so we were packed in like sardines by the time we got to Lombard St.
Hazel had a relatively easy time getting to sleep after all the fresh air and excercise her little neck muscles got riding around in the carry pack so Rob and I had a few hours to ourselves to eat and watch Cast Away on TV.

Monday, Oct 8th to Thursday, Oct 12th

Things are winding down as I’ve run out of things I really want to see and I’ve been feeling less adventureous and more ready to go HOME!
Monday we went out to Fisherman’s Wharf for dinner ’cause I had a jonesing for Fried Clams. I don’t know why – I just did… No no no – don’t be thinking ‘Uh oh, she’s having cravings…” nothing like that. So where are you going to find fried food? Where all the tourists are, of course! Tho’ we had to tour around the pier and found out that Bubba Gumps is a place to avoid at all hours (an Hour wait? What?) we found a place that 1. had fried clams and 2. had a TV so Rob could see the end of the Bronco’s game. Hazel stayed in a reasonable mood and got attention from the waitstaff, dish-folks and diners alike. She’s still waffling between being really shy and freaking out or just accepting the attention like the darling little cutie she knows she is. She has even freaked out a couple times when Rob has come out of the shower and talks to her with his hair wet. Could be she’s critiquing the fact that he really needs a haircut.
Taylor Jessen, Rob’s partner in crime from Doo Doo Radio days, is in town for a couple days. We’ve invited him to crash on the couch here. Good thing we opted for the 1-bedroom rather than the studio rental. Taylor, being exceptionally tall, is actually sleeping on the -floor- on the couch cushions. Between that and the baby screeching at nite I hope he doesn’t regret not getting a hotel room. Rob and Taylor haven’t seen each other for years (I think it’s years) so it’s great that they can get together for the visit.

The Weekend – Sept 9th and 10th

We rented a car for the weekend to see some things we couldn’t get to easily by walking or public transportation. Saturday we went north and crossed the Golden Gate bridge into Sausasilto before heading south to check out west San Francisco. On the way over to the bridge we drove by Ghiradelli square where the annual chocolate festival was going on but had to miss out on the party. Oh rats!
Going over the bridge and thru the rainbow tunnel into Sausalito made it apparent just how many micro-climates there are in this area. Foggy and cold on one side, sunny and warm on the other. Freaky. While we were over there we stopped at In-and-Out Burger because it was the easiest lunch. I wonder if every one of them is crazy-busy for lunch time. The 2 we’ve been to so far have been nuts at lunch.
After lunch we headed south again back over the bridge to west San Francisco where I wanted to check out a story called Citikids. I had 2 specific purchases in mind. A Halo Sleepsack – like a sleeping bag with arm holes for babies so they don’t kick the blankets off and a wind up mobile because we had to leave our mobile at home. Found and purchased both (yay!) By that time Hazel was getting to Miss Fussy-pants stage and we had to find a place to hang out while she fed. After walking around a bit we came to Grain D’Or a quiet little bakery with reasonable pastries and coffee drinks. While they didn’t have a public restroom the lady that runs the place was just fine with us changing Hazel’s diaper on a chair there. While we hung out waiting for Hazel to finish ‘lunch’ quite a few folks came in to get loaves of fresh bread.
We continued south and drove thru Haight-Ashbury and the Golden Gate park – which Rob insists we walked around the last time we were here (shortly after we got married). I -have- to find that roll of film because I don’ t remember much of that trip – must be getting OLD!
Soon it was time to find another place to camp and feed. We were originally targeting Starbucks and bookstores but I had a brainstorm and thought the Women’s Lounge in Nordstroms would be a great place for me to be with the baby and Rob would have a mall to wander around in. Aside from the teenage girlz doing each other’s makeup (“ohmygawd – I can’t believe my eyelashes! I can’t go out like this”) the lounge/mall was a good place to hang out and Rob got some new clothes for work. After a quick dinner for the parents at the mall foodcourt we headed back to the condo.
Sunday we traded cars (expensive Avis ‘tincan’ for cheaper Hertz ‘boat’) and headed south for Santa Cruz. We stopped along the way in at Straw Hat Pizza in Pacifica and had a nice quick lunch. The drive down on Hwy 1 was not quite what either of us expected. Rob expected more trees and I expected more cliffs and twisty roads. What we got was something a lot like Hawaii – including farmland, wind and surfers. Just need a few pinapple farms…
Hazel asked us to stop at Pidgeon Point so everyone could take a rest. We took a few pictures then found a quiet spot down the road just south of the lighthouse. Dad took a nap while Hazel and I dealt with her lunch.
We made it down to Santa Cruz quickly after that, found a place to park and went out to explore the Boardwalk. We found it’s a lot like the Seattle Center arcade/funzone only more. And where are the boards? You go to a boardwalk you expect boards… Nope, those are over on the Municipal Wharf which we didn’t get to.
We experienced Boardwalk Food (yum?) for lunch and decided we’d done enough. A check goes on the list.
On the way back Rob wanted to drive thru the Valley to show me some places he’d been to. We ended up stopping pretty close to the Seagate headquarters on Disc Drive (har har) in Scotts Valley to feed the starving baby.
It was pretty dark by the time we made it thru the Valley so while we couldn’t see the buildings we could see the corporate logo signs lit up on the buildings. Now I know where Oracle is. Ta dah.

Monday Sept 11th thru Friday Sept 15th

This week has been a bit less eventful. I dropped the car of at Hertz on Monday then spent the early afternoon walking around the area near Ghiradelli Square.
Hazel and I had lunch at Las Margaritas in the Cannery building then walked over to the Hyde St. Pier to see all the big and historic boats. The Maritime Museum is closed for renovations until 2009 but the Sr. Center on the east end of the building is going strong. They had a big-band dance/luncheon going on as we walked by.
Ghiradelli Square is also going thru some renovation so many of the storefronts were closed – tho’ the cafes and ice cream shoppes were still open.
Tuesday we spent the day in our jammies until Rob came home and wanted to go out for dinner. We found a place called Chow in the Mission District. It was easy to get to on the F Train. There also was no wait to get a table despite it being very busy (fast turnover) and had good food and fresh deserts.
Wednesday my goal was to get the zipper on Rob’s leather jacket repaired. Unfortunately the tailor/shoe shops I found said it’d be a week to get it done. I guess they have to order the zipper. So to console myself about a task undone I went over to a french pastry shop and bought a chocolate croisannt. The guy in front of me in line noticed Hazel and gave her much praise about being such a little cutie! He has a little baby nearly 6 months old and couldn’t wait to get back home. Hazel got much attention from folks walking by “Such a cute baby! What pretty blue eyes!” Yes indeedy – just like Grandpa Bob says – the perfect little baby.
While we were wandering around the Financial District I spotted a newspaper rack for The Onion. Now while I don’t particularly like The Onion or find it terribly amusing I thought having a newspaper rack for it in the Financial District was pretty darn funny. Kinda like the Wall Street Journal around Haight-Ashbury.
I stopped by the bakery in the Ferry building for another loaf of sourdough – mmmm crunchy – and was going to ride the F Train down to Pier 45 to see Musee Mechanique. Unfortunately all the trains going by were full so the drivers just blew by my stop seeing me with an SUV sized stroller. We may need to investigate getting a slightly smaller stroller so I can use public transportation around here. Tho’ the large stroller is excellent for hauling Hazel and a ton of groceries home from Trader Joes.
Thursday was another laundry day and we ordered Chinese in for dinner. Being so close to Chinatown it’s hard to find a place that -doesn’t- deliver.
Hazel has been giving herself lots more tummy time than I would give her myself. While this has been great for learning to look around and tiring her out for naps its downside is she does a lot more Elvis impersonations. Not the lip thing…the spitting up and doing a faceplant in it thing. Thanhkya, thahnkya verruh muhtch. She also ended up sleeping on her tummy the other nite. I didn’t even know she had rolled over and fell asleep until I went in to go to sleep myself. She didn’t make a fuss about it on the baby monitor. Mobility is right around the corner. Time to start babyproofing the house. (Yes, you can all stop laughing and get up off the floor now.)
Today, Friday, we’re spending time packing up stuff to head back to Seattle. I’ll be home with the baby while Rob goes back to San Fran on Tuesday. We’ll have to figure out video conferencing so he can get his daily ‘baby fix’ over the intarweb.

There are more photos of the trip on the photo site.

So we made it down here uneventfully and even lucked out and were able to take Hazel’s car seat on the plane even tho’ we didn’t pay for an extra seat – it wasn’t a full flight! She slept until right before landing and Rob was able to calm her down enough that she fell asleep again before we were on the ground. The only bad part of the flight was the kid in front of me spilling his sippy cup of apple juice into our diaper bag that was under his seat. Thankfully I’d tried something new this trip and packed things in ziplock bags to make it easier to organize and the only thing that got soaked was a bill I’d tucked in there last minute. JCPenneys will get an apple juice-scented bill this time. Too bad it’s not Macy’s – their practice of including perfume samples in their bills drives me nuts.
Despite having about an hour of sleep last the nite before we went out and toured around the Embarcadero and found food. Have to say In-and-out burgers are much much better than Steak-and-shake.
While Rob is busy with business, Hazel and I will have to keep ourselves entertained. Shouldn’t be hard with so many entertaining shops and characters around here.

Tuesday Sept 5th

Hazel and I spent our first full day exploring San Fran. We wandered all around Chinatown – found a tea tasting shop and had some samples before we decided to buy some “Blue tea” which is a mild tasting green tea. Word of warning – don’t get to Chinatown by going up Broadway because unless you’re looking for Adult Shops there’s nothing much else of interest.
We also found the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory and got a bag of fresh flat cookies – the pre-folded sans-fortune kind. They threw in some fresh ones right off the line – mmm warm cookies!
The San Francisco Chinatown is a whole lot busier than the one in Seattle. For one I don’t think they have an Uwajimaia’s where everyone can do their grocery shopping so there are tons of little Mom & Pop markets that get very very crowded around 4:00 when folks shop for dinner. Pushing the stroller thru a sea of little-old-Chinese ladies and avoiding all the delivery folks with hand-trucks full of eggs and other interesting fruits and veggies was quite an adventure. Hazel slept thru it all
There are a few places I wanted to go but were unable to due to having the SUV stroller. City Lights bookstore looks interesting and if I go back I’ll have to ask if I can leave the stroller at the front desk somewhere.
We managed to find a quiet spot for Hazel’s 2:00 feeding in St. Mary’s Square. They have a circular shaded play area for kids with swings and benches and a spongey rubberized surface (recycled tires) that is quite cushy and apparently popular with the drunk/homeless crowd. I was there first and the guy who showed up later seemed quite agitated that I was in the space. He after pacing back and forth and grumbling a bit he must have decided messing with a nursing mom was not worth the trouble he’d get into and he settled down on the far side of the play area. Don’t mess with the Momma!
Of course we had to walk down to the end of Grant Street and get the obligitory photo of the China Gate. Along the way we didn’t accosted by folks asking for money – but there were lots of folks with menus and flyers for restaurants in the area advertising Dim Sum lunches with coupons for Free Potstickers. We may just have to go back later in the week!
We avoided Telegraph Hill by walking back up Stockton to Bay St. and stopped by the Safeway there to get stuff for dinner (mmm tacos!). Hazel did her best to provide entertainment and distractions by waking up as we were walking into the store and giving me a beautiful beaming smile then screaming until she was coughing and sputtering by the time we were going thru the checkout line. Needless to say I -forgot- to buy the tortillas and beans so Rob had to stop by the Amazingly Expensive deli/market up the street to get those.

Wednesday Sept 6th

Hazel and I spent a relatively quiet morning feeding, sleeping, fussing, sleeping etc. Rob brought home sandwiches from Freddies - which has very tasty sandwiches but not so great service during lunch. You have to be very specific and check your bag before leaving the door during the lunch rush – or it’s No Soup for You!
We got out the door in the late afternoon and walked over to Pier 39 on Fishermans Wharf. Typical touristy shops so I -had- to buy Hazel a souvenir outfit. Also got a photo of her with Alcatraz in the distance.
We walked down the Embarcadero to Boudin’s bakery to watch them make the famous San Francisco Sourdough – which if you ask me isn’t ask good as Seattle’s. And we stopped at the “Escape from Alcatraz” store – which was selling – what else – more souvenir prison outfits (black and white stripes) with “Escape from Alcatraz” logos. Hazel has joined the “Alcatraz Health Club – Swim for your life”.
We went out to the Financial District for food via Little Italy – ended up eating at the same Chinese restaurant Rob had lunch at Tuesday. It’s very popular and has very good food. Met a couple across the aisle who have grown children but remember loving the ‘blank slate’ that a baby is. She was getting a lot of attention as Rob moved her car-seat up and down (arm curls) in the very crowded eating area trying to get her to go to sleep. After a quick tour of the Financial District we caught the F Train back up to the Embarcadero and headed for home.

Thursday Sept 7th
After a lazy morning and afternoon of sleeping, nursing, watching some TV about Beekeepers in Russia and getting in some Quality Tummy time where Hazel did her first official several-minute mini-pushup where she looked all around the room holding her head up we decided to hit the The Historic Ferry Building Night Farmers Market.
I got distracted walking thru Embarcadero center shopping complex and ended up spending way too much on cute baby outfits at Baby Gap – even with some of them being on the clearance rack. I think now Hazel is an official Baby Gap baby – the lady in the checkout line noticed she was wearing Baby Gap socks (Thanks Auntie Jill!)
At the market we picked up an heirloom tomato and some certified organic sweet corn (organic enough that when we shucked it we found a little green crawly friend enjoying one end of the ear – we cut that off and ate the other end). There must have been a ‘Iron Chef’ type contest going on in the Market because I saw several teams of folks in white chefs hats running around with shopping lists looking for things like cheese and olive oil. (Both of which we tasted at the various storefronts.)
Rob met us down in the area and we had an adventure taking the BART close to Moscone Center to hit the Food Court. Rob has been to enough conventions down here that he’s pretty sure he’s eaten at every restaurant in the court. We toured around Union Square and then caught the F Train home again.

Friday Sept 8th
Spent the day doing domesticky type stuff. Shopping at Trader Joes (just a few blocks away – kickass!) and laundry. Cornflake chicken for dinner prepared me for the long night of Hazel not wanting to go to sleep and sleeping fitfully. Ah – a great start to the weekend. Luckily Daddy will be around to help entertain the baby!
